Pain terrific falls
I cry out from drowning, “Come
Marvelous Savior!”
From terrific waves
Pain washes my soul and I
Find marvelous birth

After a weekend of intense pain flares, these word prompts of “Marvelous & Terrific” for the #HaikuChallenge offered at Ronovan Writes struck my heart so deeply. The poems that came to me felt so different than how I would have thought those words should fall.
And yet the birthing that is being brought forth from places that have felt so dead is a beautiful thing. Indeed, my Savior is answering my cry from out of the waves.
But your dead will live, Lord;
their bodies will rise—
let those who dwell in the dust
wake up and shout for joy—
your dew is like the dew of the morning;
the earth will give birth to her dead.
I pray for you, my friends, to see the Savior bringing new life to your dusty places as well.

Amen Bettie! I pray the Lord heals all your pain! God bless you!

Dear Bettie, what a beautiful set of haiku! I saw the prompt words and wasn’t sure what to do with them so I haven’t written anything yet. But I love so much what you wrote. I know those words came from your heart and because of all the pain you have endured, trusting in your Savior to comfort and be with you. Much love and many blessings to you my dear sister/poet/friend! xoxo

Dear Gayl,
Thank you so much for all of the support and encouragement you have given. Your prayers in the midst of my pain have meant more than I can ever say. What a precious Savior we have who does bring us such comfort in His presence. I hope you can join in with the Haiku prompt. Your words are always such a blessing too! Love and hugs to you my dear sister/poet/friend! xoxo

Love this, Bettie, and the Isaiah verse speaks to me. I’ve been in a drought it feels like, and yet God has shown me he doesn’t dwell everywhere else, leaving us to navigate dry places alone. It’s not how I thought he worked. I thought the drought meant we had veered off the path. I am praying for you! Your poet words are always such a joy, because they speak from where you are.

Dear Meg,
Oh yes, I know what you mean–we get these ideas in our heads that trouble means we must have disobeyed somehow. And yet, He views it all so differently doesn’t He? He is using it all to bring us even closer to His heart through it. He has changed my perspective too, through these drought & flood years. I am so grateful for your prayers, dear friend. They mean so very much to me. Love & Hugs to you! xo

Your haiku so beautifully expresses how our marvelous Savior has the power, the mercy, and the willingness to answer our cries and lift us out of the terrific waves of pain and trouble into marvelous birth. And Isaiah 26:19 is so encouraging, too. Also the song. May the Spirit of God breathe on us and awaken the song He has placed within us! Thank you so much for this refreshing comfort, Bettie. Blessings and love to you!

Good afternoon, Bettie,
How amazing God led your words to fall in such a way that met you right in your pain. When do you start therapy, sister? I am lifting you up with faith He will help you. Love, Julie

Dear Julie,
Yes, isn’t God so amazing the way that He moves within us as we are writing with Him? It is still a mystery to me. He brings just the gift that we ourselves need, true comfort. Your prayers are such a comfort to me too, Julie. I begin therapy a week from today, and I know it will only be God’s strength that gets me through! Blessings and love to you!

Praying for you, Bettie, and for those who deal with chronic pain. I have a measure of it myself, but not near as much as others have to live with. 😦 On Monday I had my first intense bout with sciatica. It practically paralyzed me with pain for awhile, but thankfully it eased up enough for me to make it to the bathroom to get some advil and then well enough later to pick up my grandbaby who was sleeping in her crib at the time. It was quite a fright. But it made me more appreciative of what others have to live through every day. God bless you all!

Dear Lisa, I’m so sorry for that paralyzing pain you had to deal with! Yes, it is frightful when it hits us like that. I’m so grateful for your compassion and prayers. It means so much to have those both. Thank God for His help for you with your dear grandbaby! I’m praying for you this week too. May the Lord continue to be so near to you. Blessings and love to you.

This is beautiful Bettie! I have autoimmune disease and suffer through painful flare-ups and an overwhelming plethora or side effects that can sometimes swallow me whole. And I agree that the true joy of the Lord that is our strength is borne of the pain and sorrows we suffer! It is a blessing to spiritually grow to a place of understanding that our suffering is a sweet blessing! The song is beautiful! Much Love, Deborah 😀 ❤

It’s so nice to “meet” you today, Deborah! I’m so glad we were neighbors over at Ronovan’s place this week. Truly our Lord brings such blessings to us in unexpected places, doesn’t He? I’m so sorry that you experience painful flare-ups and side effects. I know those all too well, as all of the traditional medications for my RA have caused side effects and failures in treatment for me. Where would we be without God’s grace? I am so thankful that He brings such blessings as we join in with Him in the suffering. Much love to you too!
