Chronic Joy Ministry: A Prayer Prompt

Dwelling

The Cambridge English Dictionary gives us a simple definition for the word dwelling: a place where people live. And yet, we each also dwell within these physical forms–our human bodies that are inherently lonely. No one else can feel the precise emotions we feel. No other person can hear the words that rumble around in our minds. There is not another one who can feel the exact pain of the chronic illnesses that so many of us carry.

But Scriptures tell us so clearly that we are NOT alone. How can that be? The Scriptures uncover the truth of the ONE who is always with us: our Lord Jesus. He came to dwell with-in us. What an amazing thought.

What if we paused in our lonely places and asked Jesus to reveal Himself to us? What if we could lift our alone-ness up to Him as a prayer?

I have been so honored over the last 6 months, as I have joined with the community at Chronic Joy, sharing weekly written prayers there. So many have posted personal prayer requests at the #PrayerPond, and we have shared notes using #PenToPaper for old fashion communication too.

And in that joining, my heart is stirred to include you, my dear readers of this blog-site. I am so blessed to invite you to visit the Chronic Joy Ministry website and read these Prayer Prompts every month. While you are there, browse the website to see the myriad of encouraging resources gathered there by Pamela Piquette and Cindee Snider Re, the co-founders, who are themselves walking a chronic illness journey. Even if you don’t have a chronic illness yourself, I can venture to say that someone close to you, maybe even in a hidden or quiet place, is suffering in ways that you have not realized.

We are meant to walk with Jesus, and to walk with each other as we follow Him.

Now pay attention; I am standing at the door and knocking. If any of you hear My voice and open the door, then I will come in to visit with you and to share a meal at your table, and you will be with Me.

  1. This brings tears, Bettie. What makes me feel more alone is when some people don’t understand my limitations, when they think I can do more than I think I can. But I know how tight I feel when I get out into cold air and how it brings me down. It only takes one comment or one silence to get me discouraged, and I tend to forget all those who do support and believe me. It especially grieves me when I get blind to Jesus’ unfailing support. I know you understand, my friend. Thank you so much for this needed reminder that Jesus understands and He never leaves us alone. And thank you for the prayer prompts, too. Love and blessings of strength and peace to you!

    1. Dear Trudy,
Oh, how well I do understand those times of discouragement dear friend. Even tonight, when I could not remember the simplest piece of direction (or so it seemed to me,) I felt the tears rising within me. But how precious is our Lord Jesus and His “unfailing support,” as you spoke of. I am so grateful that He is always here with us and brings us such sweet encouragement just when we need it. Thank you for sharing your heart with me so often. May you be blessed with His great strength and peace this night as well. Love & Hugs to you!

  2. Oh what a marvellous ministry you and the rest of the Chronic Joy Ministry team are offering! It’s such an added burden to have chronic illness and also feel completely isolated and alone with it. We really do need one another’s prayers, care, compassion and support, as I’ve experienced in a wonderful way with you, dear friend. It makes such a difference to know that others have empathy and can understand what we are going through, and to know we are being lifted to the Lord in prayer. A kind, encouraging word can alter a life, as can being prayed for and befriended in this way. May God strengthen and sustain you in your own weakness, Bettie, as you share His tender love and grace with those in need. Thanks for sharing more of what that involves here so we can support you with it too. Blessings and love. xoxo ❤

    1. Dear Joy,
And I thank you dear friend, for all of the times that you have included and encouraged me on this lonely feeling chronic illness path. I think a lot of the burdens in my heart come from remembering how alone I felt before blogging, and before all of the conversations that the Lord has allowed us to share together. I pray that He will guide our words and prayers to touch others who also have felt that same way, and allow the overflow of His love for us to bless them too. You have blessed me so much with your uplifting words and poetry. I pray that the gifts being shared at Chronic Joy would bring more of that same encouragement of the Lord also. Blessings and love and hugs to you! xoxo

  3. Good afternoon, dear Bettie, what an amazing fit you are for that website! I pray your prayers reach many open hearts each month, hearts that will draw closer to Jesus in the process. Rest in Him, dear sister. I can only imagine how you stretch yourself to write in times of physical pain. Love, Julie

    1. Dear Julie,
I thank you so much for your beautiful prayers dear friend. Our Lord surely is calling out to the lonely and hungry hearts to find HIS own encouragement! And I thank you for your encouragement to me also. Yes, the stretching becomes difficult on days, but then He does call me to rest, just as you reminded me too. It is all His work, His heart, and I am just carried along with Him. I am so grateful that we can pray for each other! Blessings and love to you too!

    1. Yes, I agree! I’m so blessed that the Lord gave Pamela and Cindee that vision, to find the full and Chronic Joy of the Lord right in the midst of the hard and painful path of chronic illness. His ways are so much higher than our own. Blessings to you!

Amen! To find that chronic joy in our pain could only be His gift. I am so thankful that He brings His heart to us right there. Blessings and love to you dear friend. I do continue to pray for you all in Australia too.

  4. Prayer is so powerful and the fact that you lead this ministry for Chronic Joy is a beautiful blessing. I find when I write out prayers or verbally pray for the person as soon as they request it, I truly have made an impact. You are doing the same when you share such beautiful prayers over at Chronic Joy. Blessings, my friend!

    1. Dear Mary,
Yes, what a gift our Lord has given us to be able to pray together to and with Him. And, I agree, that praying at the moment of request really is so powerful. Thank you for your sweet encouragement that you always share, dear Mary. I pray for you to be blessed richly this week also!
