Sharing: Letters to Family And Friends

I began the morning jolted awake by one of those Emergency Warnings that your phone blares loudly. Squinting my eyes, I read the note and offered a quick prayer over those involved in that crime scene, and I tried to go back to sleep. But 5am or not, I was now awake for the day, feeling a sense of dread covering me. It was the day before my husband was to leave for his trip into the hospital in Chicago, to prepare for his Valve Replacement Surgery.

And my heart wasn’t ready for his heart’s make-over.

Have you faced that kind of dread? The kind that tells you everything is too hard for you? The kind that says why bother with hope, when the days are just too dreary?

And then I remembered another task that the Lord had set before me on this day. Over a month ago, my dear friend Mandy, of Mandy and Michelle had invited me to share a post on her site for sometime this year. I thought I was too weary to write any additional posts, but I woke one morning, not long after her invitation, with thoughts flowing in my heart for another post in her series, “Letters to Family and Friends of Fibromyalgia patients.” So I sent her the post and laid the thoughts aside.

Until the Lord prompted Mandy to publish that Letter this weekend. And what was the subject for that letter?

“Remember [carefully] the former things [which I did] from ages past; For I am God, and there is no one else; I am God, and there is no one like Me,

Isaiah 46:9 AMP

Just last week (read more about God’s precious working in our lives here and here,) God gave my husband and me great miracles and touches of His presence. And He doesn’t want me to forget those now, even as my husband faces new challenges. There is great benefit, spiritually, emotionally, and even physically, as we remember those beautiful and wonderful times that God brought to us.

Join me today at Mandy and Michelle’s site here to read about what some of those benefits are. Yes, God’s timing is so amazing, isn’t it? He keeps our eyes lifted to HIS glory, even when the dreary threatens to overwhelm us.

And when you return here, I pray that this Youtube channel will bless you as much as it has blessed me. My dear friend Trudy, of Freed to Fly, first brought me the comfort from these brief sessions that look at artistic offerings and the Biblical truths they convey:

May I pray with you today?

Dear Lord Jesus,

Thank You for watching over our every step, even as You watch over those tiny sparrows. Will You help us to remember those times of beautiful glimpses that You have given us to show Your care for us? We so often forget Your ways, and instead focus on the hard in front of us. Will You forgive us for looking away from You? Thank You for the great care that You provided for my husband last week. And thank You for reminding me that You will watch over Him as He faces another surgery this week. Will You comfort my dear friends here today, those who are also facing hard places and dreary days? Thank You for Your sweet love and grace that You shower over us and over our loved ones. We give YOU praise and glory today.

In Your name we pray,

Amen.

  3. I’m late getting here, Bettie, but you and your husband remain in my prayers. I love Jack Dawson’s meaningful paintings and the Biblical explanations his wife, Nancy, gives. I look forward to another one each week! This week’s really blessed me, too. I was so inspired by how Jesus’ hand holds the branch up and looks directly at the sparrow. Isn’t it amazing how Jesus holds us up, sometimes even when we don’t realize He’s there? I love the encouraging verses you share and the tip to look back at happy times our brains hold. Also the heartfelt prayer. Love and blessings of strength and peace for each moment!

    1. Oh Trudy, you are just on time, as I always appreciate your prayers and encouragement so much. Yes, I was so moved by this week’s painting, especially as I prayed for my husband! We are so grateful for the ever-watchful eyes of Jesus upon Him. He may be released from the hospital tomorrow, to go to our son’s home to recuperate a few days. So I am clinging onto the branch of Jesus myself here too. Blessings, love, and prayers to you Dear friend. Xoxo
