25 Days of Christmas: Day 1

“But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God.”

God found favor with a hidden teenager. She was not famous. Her family was not wealthy. She had not been trained for a great future. And yet, God found favor with her.

We can see the heart of submission that dwelt deep within her, when we see her answer to the angel. We all know that she said “yes” to God’s call.

But what if she had not obeyed?

  1. Dear Bettie, I think that in choosing a young, teenage Mary to be the Mother of Jesus, God demonstrates His willingness to work with and within the least of us. Although her spiritual standing and faithful response revealed maturity beyond her years, especially when she must have had fleeting concerns at least about the social stigma and shame she would carry thereafter. I enjoyed your lovely words over at Ifeoma's site and I LOVE the haiku you have shared here! Blessings, love and hugs! xoxo

  2. Dear Joy, Oh I am so glad that you enjoyed the Haiku here! I reworked an earlier poem from last January, actually, so that it would flow here with this season. I am so thankful for the Lord's spark and strength to join in with community a little more again for a while. As I pondered Mary's choice to accept God's will and favor over her life, I too thought about all of the concerns I would surely have shown. And so I do want to pause and let the Lord bring forth HIS yes for me here. He is so gracious to choose each one of us, isn't He? Blessings, love and hugs to you my dear friend! xoxo
