A gift of waiting part 2

The days of waiting continue.

The burdens for those I love grow heavier. The withdrawal from the Prednisone grows harder to bear in my body. And the cry for “Mercy, Lord Jesus!” echoes in my heart today with these simple words.

Thick rustles cover song

almost breathing but

tendril was sweet

between rose blooms

bright sun shines with

wild color above

pain and lament were heavy

as baffled I fell

breath was labored

life ebbed before my eyes

yet under the cover so deep

raises a soft twitter

tendrils of hope dance

when my ears hear the song

a bird so young downy fluff

trembles in hunger until

father swoops in full of care

tenderly feeding with grace

my own heart trembles in song

between the rose blooms

“Feed me, my Father

Tenderly with Your grace”

“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.” Luke 13:34 NIV

May I pray with you today?

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for sending Your own son, Jesus, to come to feed us Your grace. Forgive us for all of those days when we have resisted Your offer. Forgive us for holding ourselves apart from Your grace, for trying to make it on our own. We know that we have no strength inside of us now. We feel the weight of our own humanity–our deep need for Your grace. We long now to be fed by You, our dear Father of mercy and grace. We long to know that intimate touch of Your food given to us. Thank You for the gift of Your creation, those birds of the air, given to teach us more about You.

In the Name of Your son, Jesus, we pray,

Amen

I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” John 6:51 NIV

  2. So beautiful, Bettie! How you captured the hunger of our hearts through the fluttered feeding of the baby bird among the roses. Yes, we do tremble with hunger. Soul hunger. And only our Heavenly Father can fill this need. May He fill you til you want no more. Singing with you as you wait, dear sister. Much love, Melissa

  5. What lovely words Bettie, it makes me think of how the cardinals in my rose bush fed their babies, they were always bringing something and sometimes the male fed the female. I am writing about angels this summer, may we all breathe and rest better in their presence and His.
